Philip A. MackeyAGE: 86 • NewarkPhilip A. Mackey of Newark, Delaware passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017. He was 86 years old.Phil was born on May 20, 1931 to the late Arthur and Sarah Jane (McCorkle) Mackey of Montchanin, Delaware. A graduate of Alexis I. duPont High School, he served in the Korean War as an Airman First Class with the 17th TAC Bomb Wing. Phil received the Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal, and was honorably discharged in 1955. While stationed in Japan, Phil met Yasuko Takatsuka, and they married in Yonago, Japan on October 20, 1956. Phil earned a degree in computer science from Delaware Technical and Community College, where he served on staff until his retirement in 1991. He was a generous and compassionate soul, always donating his time to numerous causes, especially any involving children or animals. Both Phil and his wife, Yasuko would volunteer their musical talents at the Newark Senior Center, forming a chorus group which would perform at various nursing homes. Phil was an avid painter and photographer who enjoyed capturing any subject in nature on canvas or film. Phil is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Yasuko (Takatsuka) Mackey; his daughter, Katherine Jannuzzio (Thomas); his sons, Philip T. Mackey (Holly), Steven A. Mackey (Kathleen); four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.Family and friends are invited to celebrate Phil's life at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, September 1. A viewing will be held at 11:00AM, followed by funeral services at 12:00PM.
