SUDLERSVILLE - Josephine Mae (Sweeny) Garrett died Nov. 9, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Garrett was born on Jan. 26, 1924 in Newark, daughter of the late Thomas B. and Elsie (Caldwell) Sweeny. She was raised in Wilmington, and after her marriage in 1942 they moved to Kent County. In 1948 they moved to Millington where she and her husband operated a farm and raised five children. In 1965 they moved to the town of Millington. Mrs. Garrett enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing cards and games, cooking delicious meals and painting beautiful ceramics. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Earl Garrett, Sr.; her son-in-law, John R. Mulford, Jr.; and four sisters, Irene Burris, June Russell, Florence Calloway and Virginia Ann Sweeny. Mrs. Garrett is survived by her children, Joanne Mulford, of Galena, Md., Earl Garrett, Jr. (Vicky), of Millington, Md., Barbara Carter (Wayne), of Dover, Burton Garrett, of Sudlersville, Md., and Mark Garrett (Mary), of Smyrna; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-greatgrandchildren; one step-grandchild; three step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-greatgrandchildren; a brother, Thomas B. Sweeny, Jr.; and two sisters, Frances Nowakowski and Vada Lockerman (Gene), all of Delaware. Friends may call on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, Md., where funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown, Md.
