Dr. Gaines Cullom HuntClarksville, TNDr. Gaines Cullom Hunt, 73, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Clarksville Nursing and Rehabilitation.Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel, with a gathering to follow the service. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.Dr. Hunt was born on July 13, 1943, in Cheatham County, TN, son of the late Lauren and Lula Fort Hunt of Pleasant View.Dr. Hunt, a Methodist, was retired from Austin Peay State University serving as Professor and Chair of Agriculture, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of Graduate Studies and Director of Fort Campbell Programs, Interim Dean of Arts and Sciences, and Dean of College of Science and Mathematics. He was a recipient of the Faculty Distingiushed Service Award and the Ohio Valley Conference Thurston Banks Award, and Ohio Valley Hall of Fame.A graduate of Austin Peay State University and Mississippi State University, he was active in alumni activities, Governor's Club, Red Coat Society, and was named a national Alpha Gamma Rho Brother of the Century. He was a member of the Downtown Civitan Club.Dr. Hunt is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lynda Cowan Hunt, two daughters, Laura (Andrew) Daniels of Waverly and Leslie (David) Fitch of Memphis, three granddaughters, Anna Caroline Daniels of Waverly, Lula Mae Fitch, and CeCe Lynn Fitch of Memphis, grandson, Jackson Gaines Daniels of Waverly, brothers, Jerry (Virginia) Hunt of Franklin, Don Hunt, and Max (Barbara) Hunt of Pleasant View, sister-in-law, Marilyn Cowan Haddock of Clarksville, nieces, Glenda Hunt (Troy) Head, Melynda Howell (Larry) Conner, and Elizabeth Howell (Jerry) Johnson, nephew, Sterling Hunt, and great nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dr. Gaines Hunt Agriculture Scholarship and/or Athletic Scholarships in his name may be sent to Austin Peay State University Advancement, P.O.
