TUSCALOOSA – Faye Manges Black took her final journey home to her Heavenly Father on Saturday morning October 29, 2016, at Hospice of West Alabama. She was 90 years old.Mrs. Black was born on December 22, 1925 in Plainview, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Thelma Manges; her beloved twin brother, Gay Manges, who passed away shortly after their eighth birthday; her older brother, Guy Manges; and her best friend and loving husband of 68 years, Jimmie R. Black.Mrs. Black is survived by her two children, David Black of Cooper City, Fla. and Gay-Lynn Paugh (Brent) of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Dr. Brittany Parks (Dr. Kyle) and Jack Black; and a great-granddaughter, Claire Parks. Mrs. Black and her husband were lifelong faithful members of the Church of Christ, attending Central Church of Christ beginning in 1950, Alberta Church of Christ, University Church of Christ and finally Northport Church of Christ.In her later years, she continued to serve the Lord while residing at North River Village by preparing communion for the worship services attended by the residents.Mrs. Black will be fondly remembered by those who knew her for her high sense of style, often sporting wide brimmed hats, scarves and bright red lipstick. Pallbearers will be friends, Steve Deavours, Junior Latner, Jimmy Woods, Nathan Powell, Bryan Brinyark and Butch Evans.Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John Summerford, Dr. William Hill, Dr. Spruill and Dr. John Dishuck, all of whom took wonderful care of Mrs. Black for many years.The family is overwhelmingly grateful for the loving care provided to their mother in her final months by Mary Woods, Maria Pizarro, Cherry Sexton, Trish Steward and Hospice of West Alabama. We could not have made it through this without you.Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Memory Chapel with Brother Kerry Richardson officiating. A private burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service with Memory Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider directing.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3508 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
