Fairl H. Byrd, Jr., 91 of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on Friday, September 4 at The Laurels of West Carrollton nursing home. He was born on October 13, 1923 in Pioneer, Tenn., the son of the late Fairl, Sr. and Della Cross. He was a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by his brothers, David 'Kelly' Byrd; Herbert Byrd; Kenneth Byrd; Clyde 'Willard' Byrd; Lowell Byrd; and his sisters, Artha Byrd Lay; Lola Byrd Robinson and Effie Byrd Lloyd. He is survived by his best friend and companion, James O. Babb of Dayton; great-niece, Twana Dale Epperson of Goode, Va.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Fairl was a WWII veteran and worked in Oak Ridge on the Manhattan Project. He worked on the TVA before moving to Dayton to begin his career with Huber Homes. After retirement, Fairl enjoyed going to yard sales, estate sales and spending time with his friends every Wednesday at Golden Corral. Fairl was a Baptist. Services were held September 6 at the Martin Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Asbury Byrd officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Straight Fork, Tenn. Martin Wilson Funeral Home of LaFollette was in charge of arrangements.
