Dillon F. ScofieldAGE: 73 • NewarkDillon Foster Scofield, 73, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully of a heart attack in his home on May 22, 2017. We are consoled in the knowledge that he went peacefully in his sleep and died the way we all would want.Dillon was born on August 10, 1943 in Norfolk, VA to Edward Kellogg and Jeanne Zimmerman Scofield. Raised in a Navy family, Dillon lived all over the US from Virginia, to Hawaii, to California. In 1968 as a Captain at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, he fell in love with the most wonderful woman in the world and married Patricia Reiling in Dayton, OH on December 4, 1971. In 1973, he and Pat moved to Wilmington, Delaware with their year-old daughter, Nichole. Dillon went on to work for DuPont as a Mathematical Physicist and their son Jonathan was born shortly thereafter. Dillon and Pat raised their family in the Newark area and he lived out the remainder of his years there with his loving wife, Pat.Anyone who knew Dillon knows he was one of the smartest, most intellectually curious people around; and if you had any doubts all you had to do was ask him about any topic, literally any topic! He reveled in being a free thinker; just ask his gourmet club friends who were always surprised by what Dillon would come up with - who needs a recipe when you can just create something magical? Always the scientist, he was interested in everything; from fine art to computer science, music to culinary arts, physics to archaeology, he never stopped learning. As a man who worked tirelessly for the love of science, he accomplished much in his life in the advancement of physics. He held a PhD in Physics from George Washington University, and over the course of his career, had 34 publications in scientific journals and numerous patents. He worked at DuPont for nearly 25 years, formed his own company Applsci, and was an adjunct professor at both University of Delaware and Oklahoma State University.Dillon is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Nichole (husband, Paul); son, Jonathan (wife, Amy); sister, Suzie; brother, Kellogg; and 5 wonderful grandchildren. His funeral will be held on Saturday, May 27th at 11:00 am with a 10:15 am remembrance gathering at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808.
