Dale Sonski, 64, of Stewartville, died on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, of injuries caused by an accident at his rented workshop in Stewartville. Dale Edwin Jaszewski was born on July 26, 1965, in LaCrosse,Wis., to Raymond and Berniece (Beeman) Jaszewski. He moved often as a young boy with his family, living in Houston, Wisconsin, rural Dover, and then in Rochester. He attended school in Rochester and as a teenager was employed as a "pots and pans" boy at Michael's Restaurant. Later, he earned his GED in the Marines when serving two years and returned to Rochester and attended Rochester Vocational-Technical School for truck-driving mechanics. He then was employed as a cook at Perkins. He moved to Bettendorf, Iowa, and was employed as manager at the Sirloin Stockade restaurant. Dale was married on Dec. 13, 1974, in Davenport, Iowa, to Deborah R. Miller. The couple lived in Davenport and then moved to Rochester, where they began raising their daughters and Dale was employed at Crenlo Corp. They were later divorced. Dale lived and worked in Albequeque, N.M., and then Lafayette, Colo. with his life partner of more than 20 years, Kris Abelson. They returned to Rochester shortly before Kris's death due to an illness on Jan. 1, 2014. Dale moved to Stewartville and was married on April 25, 2015, to Cheryl L. Stevenson and together they legally combined their names to become the Sonskis. They have continued to make Stewartville their home. Dale was most recently employed as a custodian at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville. Cheryl is employed at Rustic Accents in Stewartville. Dale was an avid bicyclist and could be seen cycling despite weather, almost year round. He enjoyed working on bicycles and his vehicles and could fix most anything. He was a true jack of all trades. He always enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his daughters and grandchildren. He was free-spirited, always smiling and a happy-go-lucky guy. He will be deeply missed. Dale is survived by his wife, Cheryl; four daughters, Bobbie Jaszewski (Jeff Wiebold), LuRae McLarnan, Samantha Jaszewski and Jessi Jaszewski, all of Stewartville; 11 grandchildren, Grady, Emilie, Evan, Laney, Hannah, Lily, Paige, Chase, Pacey, Max and Gavin; his sister, LuRae (Bob) Buck of Albany, Ore.; half-sister, Marian Allen of Wisconsin Rapids,Wis., Donald (Virginia) Jaszewski of Henderson, Nev. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four half-sisters, Phyllis Byon, Renee Stirneman, Donna Wolfgang and Bernice Wilk and two half-brothers, Wayne Raboin and Ray Jaszewski Jr. A time of visitation to celebrate Dale's life will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
