Our family loved Ernie. He taught us how to and at times how not to live. He was nonbiological family. For me a cross between father and big brother. I will miss him
A life well lived
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ernest Collins, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, on February 17, 2025. Ernest was born on May 1, 1941, in Fresno, California to Ernest Bryan Collins and Dovie Jane Saunders.
Ernest will be dearly missed by his three children, Melinda, Julie, and Susan, and his four grandchildren, Joshua, Rachel, Seth and Nicholas. He attended Clovis High School and graduated in 1959, where he was known for his mischievous sense of humor and love for pranks.
After high school, Ernest pursued a career as a Long Haul Truck Driver, exploring the country and meeting new people along the way. He also proudly served in the Marine Corp, where he honed his discipline and dedication.
In his free time, Ernest enjoyed leather working, creating beautiful handmade pieces that he generously shared with family and friends. Despite his rugged exterior, Ernest had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Ernest battled lung cancer with bravery and humor, always managing to find the silver lining even in the toughest of times. His quick wit and infectious laughter will be remembered by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Ernest's memory. Rest in peace, Ernest. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
