Bernice Hanks, beloved mother, grandmother, and teacher, passed away on April 20, 2024, in Claymont, Delaware, United States. She was born on May 7, 1949, to Gerald and Lillian Blackwell in Claymont, Delaware. Bernice married Sullivan Hanks in 1968 and they were blessed with seven children: Gladys, Micheal (spouse Ava), Leslie, Bernice, John, Douglas (spouse Quana Shuler-Hanks), and Savanna (spouse Hakeem Lyons).
Bernice graduated from Overbrook High School in 1969 and went on to become a dedicated teacher. She shared her love of learning with countless students throughout her career until her retirement in 2012.
Bernice was a talented knitter and had a beautiful singing voice, often sharing her gifts with her church community. She was a kind and generous soul who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Bernice Hanks is survived by her loving family, including her spouse, children, and ten grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
