Arthur Strecker of Avon, beloved husband of Suzanne (Elder) Strecker, celebrated his 92nd birthday on November 9th with family and friends, and on Wednesday, November 16th, he set off for his next adventure. He was born on Sunday, November, 1924 in New York City to Arthur Trott Strecker and Virginia (Davidson) Strecker. When Arthur was in high school they moved to Deep River and Arthur was graduated from Pratt High School in Essex in 1943. Because his father was a colonel in the
Army having been in World War I and
World War II, Arthur joined the Army. He served honorably in both the European and Pacific theatres of war. He was in France for VE Day and the Philippines for VJ Day. He returned home, continued his education, and was graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1953. He worked for Uarco Business Forms, later part of the Standard Register, for over 35 years. He and his wife moved to Avon in 1960 to raise their family. He was active as a volunteer firefighter in town and was a member of the Avon Booster Club. He also worked with the Boy Scouts, Little League, and other school activities as his boys were growing up. He was happiest in later years creating in the workshop he had built as he added a sunroom to the house. We have many pieces of furniture and carvings that he spent many hours creating. We will have many happy memories of our time together. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Decsi Strecker in 1971 and his son, Scott Davidson Strecker in 2013. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Elder) Strecker; his son, David Phelps Strecker and his wife Sarah Strecker and her son Daniel Leary and his wife Emma, and Arthur's grandson, Bryan Strecker. He is also survived by his step children, Kenneth Dean Krebs and wife Mickie; Leslie Krebs Obrizzo and husband Richard, and her daughter, Lauren Bayersdorfer; and Linda Elizabeth Krebs and her children, Shawna and David Delahanty. The family has many people to thank for their help in this difficult time. Tahlya Murray came almost every evening to help keep Arthur comfortable and positive and to sing their good-night song. The loving care and expertise of the people sent by the Farmington Valley Visiting Nurse Association was comforting and reassuring. Special thanks to Jacqui, Laura, Alice, Shelly, Caroline, and Marilyn for enabling Arthur to live his final days at home without pain or anxiety. This was truly a blessing. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 3rd at 1:00 PM at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. The Reverend Dr. Brian C. Hardee will officiate. A private burial will be held in West Avon Cemetery. For directions or to leave condolences, please visit
