We are saddened to announce the passing of Yolanda Washington-Perry, affectionately known as Shelly, on February 17, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Yolanda was born on September 19, 1963 to Yolanda G. Washington.
Shelly is survived by three sisters: Denise D. Malcolm, Eleanor M. Scott, and Fabia O. Griffin. as well as four nieces, Fabia J. Talhame, Vevlin Norman, Nicole Malcolm, Moriah Warren, two nephews, Cory Hearn and Matthew L. Griffin, and a host of great nieces and nephews, family, and friends.
Shelly was a loving mother to her adopted children Krystal and Rubin Hall, who supported and helped her throughout her life. She studied at Hyde Park Career Academy high school and graduated in 1982 before continuing her education at Eastern University.
Shelly worked for the County for tens and retired in 1999. She turned her passion for jewelry making into a successful business called "Clay Wit U LLC". In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, singing, sewing, crafting, and making jewelry.
Shelly was a dedicated caregiver to her family members and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, and generosity.
Shelly's passing was due to complications from surgery. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
