Wilma AdairCarlisleWilma Adair passed away on October 31, 2017 at her home in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Interment will be in the Carlisle City Cemetery. Wilma was born on August 8, 1928 in Wayne County, Iowa to Louis and Iva Jelsma. She grew up during the Great Depression and soon realized hard work and a good education were vital to success. She enjoyed working for Dr. Scott, a dentist in Leon, and later worked at the Carlisle Care Center and the Villa. She and her husband, Darrell, lived for many years in Carlisle where they raised two daughters.Wilma volunteered her time and tutored youngsters in the Kids Hope program in Carlisle, reinforcing reading and math skills and providing a sympathetic ear. She took great pride in her students and loved to talk about their escapades. Wilma is survived by her daughters, Donna Westberg (Stephen) of Carlisle and Darla Adair-Petroski (William) of Des Moines; siblings, Keith (Janet) Jelsma and Reva Negley; and her four grandchildren, Eric (Jenny) Westberg, Christine (Brian) Westberg Dorn, Michael Petroski and Austin Petroski. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Garold, Kenneth and Harold Jelsma and sister, Lucille Snook.Wilma appreciated the kindness friends and neighbors in Carlisle gave to her. The family wishes to thank the staff at Calvin Community in Des Moines for the compassion, dedication and support they showed to "Wilmie."
