Willie Vergil Meadows, Retired, 85, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, formerly of Andrews, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017 in Las Cruces. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 10:00 AM Friday, April 7, 2017 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Rev. Rick Doyle, officiating. www.mcnettfuneralhome.com. Vergil was born on April 30, 1931 in Dott, West Virginia to Luell Meadows and Macie Shrewsbury Meadows. He grew up in Dott and attended high school there. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Conflict, and retired after 21 years of service as Chief Boatswain's Mate. He married Bobbie Ruth Hodges Myers on February 16, 1979 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. They loved traveling and riding their motorcycles all over the country. He liked camping, traveling in his RV, fishing and family gatherings. Vergil had served in the Timberon, New Mexico Volunteer Fire Department. He had worked in the PCA potash mines at Carlsbad for several years before retirement. Vergil was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Raymond Meadows and sister, Beulah Smith. Vergil is survived by 3 sons, Luell Dean Meadows and wife, Gail, of Carlsbad, NM, Clint Russell Meadows of Carlsbad, NM, Luke Meadows of Fort Worth, TX, 3 daughters, Cindy Grandjean and husband, Kirk, of Las Cruces, NM, Gwendolyn Meyers and Beverly Meyers of Midland, TX, 2 brothers, Curmet Meadows and wife, Leona, of Loveland, CO and James McKinney and wife, Kathryn, of Carlsbad, NM, 1 sister, Imogene Bowman and husband, Ronald, of Bluefield, WV, 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
