Hancock, William Wayne "Bill" Jr.,Died peacefully on Sunday, January 29th at his home in Louisville, Kentucky. Bill was born on February 3, 1925 in Buffalo, New York, to William Wayne Hancock and Mary Fisher Hancock. He grew up in Buffalo, New York, Youngstown, Ohio and Cleveland, Ohio. Bill graduated from Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio in 1942, and began his studies at Yale University. He joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1943 and served for three years, returning to Yale to graduate in 1948.Bill originally came to Louisville in 1951 to work for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company at the Indiana Arsenal. Shortly thereafter he met Mary Gibney Collis of Louisville, and they were married in 1953. In 1958 Bill joined the Louisville Gas and Electric Company, and retired from there in 1990 as Director, Executive Vice President and Corporate Secretary.Bill was active in the Louisville Downtown Rotary Club and served on the boards of the Cumberland Savings & Loan, Louisville Orchestra Foundation and the Kentucky Opera Association.Bill is survived by Mary Collis Hancock, his wife of 64 years, his three children, W. Wayne Hancock III (Libby), Harriet Hancock Clubb (Andrew) and John Vance Hancock (Nancy); his sister, Elizabeth Hancock Fritzsche (Paul); his brother, John Wolfe Hancock (Jean); and ten grandchildren, Collis Hancock Hillebrand (Hank), George Bush Hancock, Vance William Hancock, Edward Connors Hancock, Mary Elizabeth Clubb, Adele Rogers Hancock, William Wayne Hancock IV, Samuel Rogers Hancock, Ellen Gibney Hancock, and Charles Vance Hancock.Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His deep concern for others and ever present sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. His funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Road, at 1 p. m.
