William L. PedersenLaurel-William "Bill" Leslie Pedersen, age 88, of Laurel, passed away on July 1, 2017 at the Delmar Manor in Delmar, Maryland. Bill was born on January 25, 1929 in Massachusetts to the late Andrew and Marjorie Pedersen.He left Delmar High School to join the Air Force. After leaving, he joined the Air Force and fought in the
Korean War. He served as a radio operator on the B-29 Super Fortress. He spoke Spanish and worked at the embassy in Quito, Ecuador, and later, was an Electronic Warfare Systems Technician for the B-52 Bombers.After retiring from the military, he went back to school, earning his Master's Degree, and was a school teacher at Delmar High School (the same school he quit). After retiring from Delmar High School, Bill and his wife traveled and camped extensively. He was an amateur radio operator (K3KAE) who built his own radios and test equipment. Bill was an avid reader, especially history books, but always read them with a critical eye, because he often said "History was written by the victor!" He also enjoyed wood working and was a very skilled carpenter. Bill was physically fit and very active until Dementia and Alzheimer's took his life.He is survived by his children; Joyce Collins and her husband Sam, and Bobby Pedersen and his wife Sandy. Brothers; Richard Pedersen, and John Pedersen. Five grandchildren; Dawn Parker, Holly McCracken, Lee Collins, Jeremy Pedersen. Eleven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive him.He is preceded in death by his wife Florence Upham Pedersen, whom died 2008, his brother Everett Pedersen, and his grandson Jason Pedersen.Bill was laid to rest beside his wife in Portsville Cemetery. All services were held privately.Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel, Delaware.
