Wayne Allen MortineNEWCOMERSTOWN: Wayne Allen Mortine, 85, passed away on December 5, 2016. He was born on January 29, 1931 in Zanesville to the late Russell Mortine and Glenda (Shuck) Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Bonnie (Hart) Mortine. For the majority of his life, Wayne lived in Newcomerstown where he was co-owner and manager of the family grocery, Thompson's IGA Foodliner. Wayne was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Rotary, Chamber and Library boards. He was one of the founders and board members for the Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Wayne loved his time in the fields and hills as an archaeologist and collector of artifacts. He was a life member of the Archaeological Society of Ohio, where he authored publications and received numerous achievement awards. He loved showing off recent additions to his ever-growing creations of historic and cultural dioramas. All would describe Wayne as gentle and patient with never a harsh word. Wayne enjoyed a life that was fulfilling and well lived. A good husband, father, grandfather, and brother, his life will be celebrated by his children Neil (Christine) and Mark (Y) Mortine; brothers Weldon Mortine and Bill (Cookie) Thompson; sister Carol Marino; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 11:00am Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Christ United Methodist Church, 648 Oak Street, Newcomerstown.
