YORK TWP. Walter E. "Jim" "Pappy" Snyder, 83, died Sunday May 3, 2015, at the York Hospital. He was the husband of Susanne M. (Mann) Snyder. They were married for 61 years. Jim was born on September 25, 1931, in York, a son of the late Wilford and Esther Belle (Eckert) Snyder. He was the former owner of Eysters Cafe for 20 years. He then worked at Caterpillar for 25 years as a machine operator. Following retirement from Caterpillar, he was a driver for Apple Ford. He was a
U.S. Navy veteran of the
Korean War. He was a 1949 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Caterpillars Retiree Club, UAW Local #786, and the Fireman's Relief Association. He was a life member of the York County Agricultural Society. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 309 S. George St. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jonathan P. Sawicki as celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery with military honors provided by th York County Veterans Honor Guard. In addition to his wife, Jim is also survived by four children, Kathleen D. Zawacki, wife of Dennis, of Yardley, Keith Walter Snyder, husband of Lisa A., of York, Robert Emmett Snyder, fiance of Cathy Jacob, of Dallastown, and Maureen "Mollie" Barshinger, of York; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy King of York; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 309 S. George St., York, PA 17401; or to the SPCA of York County, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York PA 17406.
