Walter E. Mayer AGE: 71 • Point PleasantWalter E. Mayer, 71, of Point Pleasant formerly of Ocean Twp. and West Paterson passed away on April 2, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He battled pancreatic cancer for five years. The son of Walter Theodore and Matilda (Tillie Baumann) Mayer. Walt was born on September 9, 1945 in Jersey City, NJ Living in Secaucus he then moved to West Paterson. Walt attended Passaic Valley High School Class of 1962. He then attended Monmouth College and Fairleigh Dickinson University. Walt served in United States Navy as an officer in training. He taught English (American Literature) at Manasquan High School until 1989. Walt then went on to attend Jersey City University to obtain his Masters in special education. He was a learning Disabilities teaching consultant for Ocean Twp. Board of Education until retirement in 2009. He was a strong advocate and dedicated to helping children with special needs. Walt had touched the lives of many families with his knowledge and expertise in his field. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Teamsters, local 641. He drove tractor trailers on the weekends working tirelessly to be an excellent provider for his family. Walt was a skilled carpenter and owned his own construction company, Kyle Inc. He helped his community as a freemason at Durand Masonic Lodge, no. 179 of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. Walt was a member of Mensa International. He loved all animals and enjoyed traveling. He raised his daughters to be strong and independent with an emphasis on family values that will never be forgotten. He would want everyone to remember that it's the little things in life that mean the most. He took the time to be thoughtful and considerate and it meant the world to us. Walt will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom and devotion to his family. He was a beloved father and grandfather and without him we would not be who we are today.Walt is Survived by his girlfriend, Mary Lynn Bennett, his daughters Kyle Mayer and her husband Raymond Winn, Shannon and her husband Steve Nehoda, Brooke and her husband Andrew Reitmeyer. Beloved grandpa to Shane Mayer, Jacob Reitmeyer, Dylan Reitmeyer and Ellen Winn.A celebration of Life will be held at Offshore Restaurant and Pub Bar, 225 Ocean Ave, Point Pleasant Bch, May 7th 12-4.
