XENIA — Walter Dean Compton, 80, of South Daytona, Fla. passed away peacefully at home on February 26, 2014. Walter was born on October 22, 1933 in Greene County, Ohio to Amos and Elizabeth (Hurley) Compton. He is survived by Ruth Esther (Bloom) Compton, his devoted and loving wife of 60 years, son Michael and his wife Dana of Fremont, California, daughter Susan and son-in-law Jeff Murrell, and two granddaughters, Sydney Murrell of Bryan, TX and Devon Murrell of Gainesville, FL. His extended family includes Les Burdette, Daytona Beach, Judy Lovette, Boone, North Carolina and Koby Cass of Port Orange, FL. A graduate of Xenia High School, the Ohio University School of Banking and the University of Wisconsin's Graduate School of Banking, Walter spent more than 25 years in the banking industry and was Vice-President of Xenia (Ohio) National Bank, Waynesville (Ohio) National Bank and was a founder, Vice-President and Board member of Central Bank of South Daytona (now a part of Wells Fargo). Upon leaving the banking industry in 1978, Walter and Ruth purchased and operated for 10 years Story's Flowers in Daytona Beach before retiring. During his career, Walter served as a chapter officer in the Xenia Jaycees, Lions Club, American Institute of Banking, Volusia Bankers Association, Banking Administration Institute and the Volusia Florist Association. Walter loved to read, woodworking, watching sports, country music and his church. He was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Daytona Beach. Calling hours will be held between the hours of 6:00 P.M - 8:00 P.M., on Monday March, 10 2014 at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday March 11, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at Central Baptist Church, 152 Fairview Ave in Daytona Beach, with the Reverend Sonny Gallman of Central Baptist Church and Leslie Avchin of Hospice of Volusia County presiding.
