Virginia and Clarence had one son, Joel Winston Revelle of Essen, Germany, who survives them. Many former students and colleagues fondly remember Virginia, whose profound knowledge of American history and politics, combined with her kindness and great sense of humor made her an inspiring teacher. Although Virginia spent most of her adult life overseas, she was deeply attached to Vermont and was happy to return to her beloved Burlington upon her retirement, together with her husband, who died in Burlington in 2006.Besides her son, Virginia is survived by her daughter-in-law Isabel Hindersin, by her grandson Julian Revelle, both of Essen, Germany and brother-in-law Richard Detore of Port Saint Lucie, Florida along with dozens of nieces and nephews.
