Virginia Mae PingletonABILENE, TXVirginia Mae Pingleton, 77, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, in Abilene, Texas. Memorial services will be 11:00AM, Monday, November 6, 2017, at the First Christian Church. Arrangement are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Virginia was born on July 3, 1940 in Kansas City, Missouri to Chester I. and Nona G. (Anderson) Curtice. She received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Religious Education from Phillips University, Enid, Oklahoma. After graduation she served as Director of Youth Work at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Lawrence, Kansas. She was then called to serve the First Christian Church in Pecos, Texas. There she was introduced to women's work serving a two-year term. She then moved to Fort Worth to attend Brite Divinity School. Part way through, she married another Brite student, Jim H. Pingleton, on September 23, 1965, and turned her energies to supporting his ministerial career in West Texas. For many years Virginia was active at various levels in the Christian Woman's Fellowship. She served as CWF District Consultant, an Area Coordinator, Vice President, and the President of the Regional CWF. She was called to be Director of the Department of Church Women, she was also serving on the General Board of the Christian Church in the U.S. and Canada. In July 2005, she retired as the Director of the Department of Disciples Women's Ministries for the Christian Church in the Southwest serving since 1988. She mentored young women ministers by encouragement and arranging for them to be presenters and program leaders for the many events she directed to educate and provide fellowship for women. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband Jim. She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Pingleton of Abilene, Texas; her sister, Darlene Curtice of Mill Creek, WA; her sister, Shirley and her husband Quentin Craft of Exton, Pa; also her grandsons, Lance Seedig and wife Brandi of Midland, Texas and Spencer Seedig and Stephanie Freeman of Abilene, Texas; as well as several nieces and nephews and great-grandchildren.
