Holz, Virgil L.Virgil L. Holz, age 87, of Nekoosa, Wisconsin, passed away Friday June 16, 2017 at Wausau Aspirus Hospital.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the United Church of Christ in Nekoosa, Wisconsin. The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday morning at the church from 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM. Rev. Tim Miller will officiate the service. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Nekoosa, Wisconsin. Virgil was born on February 12, 1930 in Nekoosa to the late Carl and Jessie (Francis) Holz. He married Loretta Jane Droste on April 28, 1951 at the Rev. O'Neil Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Virgil served his country in the U.S. Army and was active from 1948-1949. He worked for the Nekoosa/Port Edwards Paper Mill for 37 years, retiring on December 1, 1985. Virgil and Loretta owned a campground for 13 years from 1983-1996 (Holz's Island View Campground), in Cable Wisconsin. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, water skiing, and riding horses. Virgil was an adventurous man from a young age, enlisting in the Army, riding horses in the rodeo, hunting a variety of game as well as playing guitar and singing classic Country tunes with friends. He was well known for his story telling, and love of a good joke and could almost always be found hard at work in one of his tool sheds or walking the woods of his land. He is greatly missed. Virgil is survived by his beloved wife Loretta of Nekoosa, WI; children Sandra (Allan) Brown of Nekoosa, WI, Cynthia (James) Schwake of Nekoosa, WI and son Dennis (Sherryl) Holz of Nekoosa, WI; 7 grandchildren Erik Fanning of Wisconsin Rapids, Michelle (Chris) Ebnet of Rochester, MN, Amy (Chris) Allworden of Port Edwards, Beth (Jamie) Peckham of Nekoosa, WI, Virgil Schwake of Nekoosa, Kora Brown of Appleton, WI and Sara (Steven) Froehlich of Nekoosa; 8 great-grandchildren Evelyn and Olivia Allworden, Jon and Khayla Peckham, Josh Ebnet, Riley and Emmett Froehlich; sister Marie Weber; nieces and nephews Donald (Mary) Weber, Allen (Bev) Weber, Melvin (Marcia) Miracle and Roger (Ann) Miracle; sister-in-law Katie Miracle.He is preceded in death by his mother Jessie Holz Amundson, father Carl Holz, step-father John Amundson, brother Donald Holz, brother Elroy Miracle, daughter Jean Fanning and brother-in-law Vernon Weber. Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa, Wisconsin is assisting the family with arrangements.
