Versie Burnette Carpenter, of Mountain City, Tenn., passed away on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at her residence. She was 86.

She was born on July 5, 1927, to the late Sidney and Liza Calhoun Carpenter.

In addition to her parents, Versie was preceded in death by a sister, Esta Hart; brothers, Norman Carpenter and Garland Carpenter.

Versie was a Charter Member of First Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sister, Exie Carpenter; nephew, Ronnie Carpenter and wife Donna; and great nephews, Christen and Cory Carpenter ;and many more nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastors Billy Poe Jones, Denton Hart and Johnny Hart.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Graveside Service and Interment will follow from the Carpenter Family Cemetery, Fairview Road, Ashe County. Pallbearers will be Versie's nephews.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Susanne Shine and Staff of Johnson County Medical Group, Staff of Silver Angels and Johnson County Rescue Squad for all of their kindness and care.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla St., Mountain City, TN 37683.
