THOMASVILLE Vernell L. "Stoney" Stonesifer, 92, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary Jane (Morris) Stonesifer. Stoney was born on December 9, 1922, in York, son of the late Basil and Neda (Joseph) Stonesifer. He worked for Edgecomb Steel and was the owner of the Boulevard Hotel. He was a U.S.
Army veteran of
WWII and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, having been wounded and received a
purple heart. The viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 902 Mt. Rose Ave. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Chuck Davis officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery with military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Stoney is survived by a son, Vernell L. Stonesifer, Jr. of Lewisberry; three grandchildren, Wesley, Darin and Jaime; five great-grandchildren; a brother, John Stonesifer of York; three sisters, Frances Wisotzkey of Mt. Wolf, Juliet Spangler of York, and Mary Magee of Manchester; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as six children and their families of Mary Jane. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, William and James. Memorial contributions may be made to the York Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 1968, York, PA 17405-1968.
