Mauk, Valeria L.Valeria L. Mauk, age 100, of Elkhart Lake, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.She was born on February 19, 1917 in New Holstein, WI, a daughter of the late Ervin and Meta (nee Hahn) Horneck. The family moved to the Town of Rhine, where Valeria attended Dewey rural school. She graduated from Elkhart Lake High School in 1934 and attended Fountain City Business College in Fond du Lac.On August 21, 1937 she was united in marriage to Ronald E. Mauk at St. Peters U.C.C. in the Town of Rhine. The couple lived in the Town of Rhine and Sheboygan following their marriage. In 1939 they moved to Elkhart Lake where her husband continued his teaching career. After 62 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on April 20, 1999. Valeria was a member of Community U.C.C. in Elkhart Lake and an active member of the church's Evening Circle. She was also a member of the Elkhart Lake Study Club and was honored by them in 2005 for 60 years of membership. Serving as Cub Scout Den Mother, 4-H leader, and a volunteer health aide in the elementary school were also important roles in her life.Valeria loved cooking and baking for her family and friends. Two of her recipes were shared in Taste of Home publications, and she even published her own cookbook in later years. She also enjoyed dancing, traveling, sewing, crocheting, knitting and a variety of other craft projects. She is survived by a son, R. Lee Mauk (Russ Bursch) of Minneapolis, MN, and a daughter, Barbara Townsend of Elkhorn, WI; two daughters-in-law, Faith Mauk (Tom Lonsway) of Kaukauna and Nancy (Gary) Grams of Elkhart Lake; AFS daughter, Jenny (Carl) Applewhaite of Barbados, West Indies; grandchildren, Ben Mauk, Matthew (Jenne) Mauk, Andrew Mauk, Amy (Stephanie) Mauk, and Evan and Eric Townsend; four great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Horneck. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ronald; two sons, Richard and David; son-in-law Thomas Townsend; brother Frederick Horneck; and sister-in-law Ruth (Aaron) Schuricht.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 11:30 A.M. at Community U.C.C. in Elkhart Lake. The Rev. Deborah Tyler, pastor of the church, will be co-officiating with the Rev. Frederick R. Trost. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Elkhart Lake.Visitation will take place at the church on Saturday, September 16, from 10:00 A.M. until time of services.
