Obituary
Travis Kent, also known affectionately as Joe, bid us farewell on August 17, 2023, after a lifelong crusade against vegetables and a miraculous ability to avoid the Internet. Born on May 21, 1942, in Charlottesville, Virginia, he graced us with his unique sense of humor and mischievous charm for 81 memorable years.
Travis, the son of Donald Kent and Virginia Lucas, came into this world with a twinkle in his eye and a knack for mischief. During his childhood, he was known to have specialized in acquiring hidden ice cream, much to the dismay of his siblings and the delight of his tastebuds.
In 1968, Travis found the love of his life, Blanche Hollings, and they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and incessant debates about the best pizza toppings. Together they raised their son, Parker Kent, who inherited his father's quick wit and remarkable ability to balance a spoon on his nose.
Travis served his country honorably as a mechanic during the Vietnam War. While he always claimed to be fixing things, it was widely known that his true talent lay in the art of creative problem-solving, often involving duct tape and inventive colloquialisms.
When not serving his country, Travis dedicated his working life to the noble occupation of farming. His green thumb was the stuff of legends, though it should be noted that he once mistook a tomato for a pomegranate. Nevertheless, his crops flourished, providing an abundance of vegetables he sneaked to his neighbors under the cover of night.
Aside from his legendary gardening feats, Travis was well-known for his quick wit and his ability to spin tales that seemed too outrageous to be true. Many an unsuspecting soul fell victim to his well-crafted pranks and elaborate jokes, only to be left scratching their heads in awe and laughter.
On August 17, 2023, Travis departed this world with a final act of defiance against vegetables, succumbing to a heart attack. His memory lives on through the laughter and love he shared with his family and friends, who will forever cherish his mischievous spirit.
Travis is survived by his loving wife, Blanche, their son Parker and his spouse Emilia, and the three adoring grandchildren who are currently on a top-secret mission to bring joy and chaos to the world.
Preston and Sons Funeral Home of Manassas is serving the family. Arrangements are being handled by Funeral Director Tonya Sanderson with compassion and care.
Rest in peace, dear Travis. May your laughter echo through the halls of the afterlife!
