Tonnis ZomermanPottervilleTonnis Willem Zomerman, 87, of Potterville, passed away at his home on Pinch Hwy, Saturday December 31, 2016. He was born on May 27, 1929 to his parents Siverdinus and Grietje (Luxema) Zomerman in Siddeburen, Netherlands. Tonny, as most knew him, was a true Wooden Shoe Dutchman. He immigrated to the United States with his family in 1952. Several years later in 1958 he became a naturalized US citizen. On August 6, 1960 he married Bernadine Steele and together they enjoyed farming on their own farm. In 1967 he started work at the Eaton County Road Commission becoming an engineer. He was proud of the work he did designing roads and overseeing their construction all the way through to completion. Tonnis is survived by his wife Bernadine, their daughter, Irene (Thomas) Porter, their granddaughters Catherine and Victoria Porter, his brother Willem (Judy) Zomerman of Potterville and his brother-in-law Vaughn (Lee) Steele. He was preceded in death by an infant sister and his parents. Visitation will be held Wednesday Jan 4, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, MI. Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday, Jan 5, at the Pray Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Benton Township EMS.
