Timothy Throup Obituary

Dec 18, 1956 - Jun 28, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Throup, TimothyTimothy Edward Throup, age 60, of Houston, Texas, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Vitas Hospice in the Woodlands, Texas. He had recently been diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer. He was not given much time or opportunity to fight this silent disease, but he did settle his life on his own terms, his loving family by his side. Tim was born on December 18, 1956 in Utica, NY and raised in upstate New York outside of Binghamton. He attended Vestal High school where he made a name for himself as an All American football star. On scholarship to Rutgers University, New Brunswick, he played hard again for the Scarlet Knights. It was at Rutgers School of Engineering that he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering which launched his 37 year career in project management in the oil and gas industry. Tim spent the first 17 years of his career with Exxon Research and Engineering in project management. He had been working his last 20 years with S&B Engineering and Contractors as a project director. Throughout his career, Tim demonstrated an ability to lead people with fairness and integrity. In 1984, Tim married his wife, Lesley, whom he had met at Rutgers and by 1989 they were leaving their families in the Northeast for life in Texas. As a result of his project management career, Tim had opportunity to live and travel abroad in Europe, South America and Indonesia. A very favorite assignment of his was the 4 ½ years they spent recently in Southern California on contract to Plains American Pipeline. An athlete to his core, Tim was an avid skier, hiker, cyclist and golfer. He was happiest in the mountains where he visited as often as he was able. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Throup and his father, Edward Samuel Throup. He leaves behind his wife, Lesley and three cherished children, Melissa Bittick, Mackenzie Throup and Thomas Throup. Their well-being and happiness were of utmost importance to him always. He is now their angel. The addition of Edward Bittick to his family brought Tim great happiness as did his two beautiful grandchildren Kayleigh and Eddie Bittick. Tim also leaves behind his much loved and only sister, Nancy Throup. The family would like to thank Dr. Nair of Texas Oncology for her compassionate care and the dedicated nurses of Memorial Hermann Woodlands as well as Sky Quartaro who supported them all through their darkness. Donations in Tim's memory can be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation PO Box 1848 Longmont, CO 80502 to assist in the goal of finding new diagnostic tools to stop this disease at its onset. The family intends to hold a memorial service in Tim's honor with details forthcoming."Though lovers shall be lost, Love shall not. And death shall hold no dominion."
