HAMILTON —Thomas E. Phelps, 52, of Hamilton, joined the Lord on the morning of Oct.29, 2015 when he passed away at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana from injuries that he sustained from an accident on U.S. 20 in Angola, Indiana. Tom was born on April 10, 1963, to Julia (Parson) Maloy and Edsel Leroy Phelps in Indianapolis, Indiana. Tom, as he was known by his family and friends, was an industrious man who started Sanitation Solutions from the ground up. Not only was Tom the owner of the company but he worked the routes on a daily basis. For several years, Tom had also been an owner of the Sweet Retreat, a favorite ice cream shop in Fremont. He was a graduate of Tarpon Springs High School in Tarpon Springs, Florida, and attended Ball State University and IPFW. Tom served in the
United States Navy and proudly served our country for four years. He attended Son Light Church in Angola, Indiana. Tom was a devoted father and treasured the time he was able to spend with his three daughters and son. He was adventurous and loved the outdoors. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and enjoying activities on Lake James. He was a huge Florida Gator football fan. He also had a love for animals and owned a small alpaca farm, Honey Lamb Farms, where he tenderly cared for the alpacas on a daily basis. Tom is survived by his mother and stepfather Julia and John Maloy, Fremont; his father, Leroy Phelps, Avon; his beloved children, daughters, Kara L. Phelps, Fort Wayne, Hailey B. Phelps, Fremont, Kadence A. Phelps, Fremont, and son Colby C. Phelps, of Fremont; two stepchildren, Alexis and Corbin Book, Fremont; and his wife Erica Book-Phelps, Fremont. Also surviving are his sister Kathryn Khandaker, Bryan, Ohio; brother Greg (Keely) Phelps, Indianapolis, Indiana; one nephew and five nieces; his former wife Ann Phelps, Fremont; and his best friend and co-worker, Harold Fuller of Fremont. Tom was preceded in death by his stepmother, Donna Phelps. Calling hours will be held from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, at Sonlight Community Church, 455 N. Gerald Lett Ave., Angola, Indiana. Funeral Services will follow the calling hours at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sonlight Community Church, with Pastor Brad Belcher officiating. Burial will be at Circle Hill Cemetery in Angola, Indiana, with military honors conducted by Fremont American Legion Cassel Post No. 257.
