Thomas L. OberlanderAugust 9, 1931 - November 5, 2017YorkThomas Lafean Oberlander entered into God's eternal care on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 6:10 a.m. at his residence at the age of 86. He is the life time companion of Roberta A. Freedman of York and was the husband of the late Elaine E. (Hivner) Barshinger who entered into rest on October 23, 1984.Tom was born on August 9, 1931 and was the son of the late Robert and Minnie (Deveney) Oberlander. He was a self-employed owner and operator of the former Thomas Oberlander Builders since 1960 and retired in 1993. He was a member of Bethany UM Church in Red Lion and the American Legion Post 605 in Dallastown. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the 101st Airborne, and is considered as a Korean War Hero serving during the Chosin Resevoir Campaign.Tom leaves his companion of 24 years, Roberta; a son, Scott L. Oberlander and his wife, Beth of York; and a daughter, Stacey E. (Oberlander) Noll-Fears and her husband, Paul Fears of Wrightsville. He was the loving grandfather of his five grandchildren, Zach, Morgan and Kacey Oberlander and Madison and Kayte Noll, and will also be missed by his loving extended family, Edward Mundis of Ocean City, NJ, Michael Mundis and Susan Mundis of York.There will be no viewing. Family and friends are invited to extend their condolences on Thursday, November 9 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A Memorial Service of Honor and Praise for Tom will begin at 4 p.m. with Pastor Mark D. Williams officiating. Full military rites will be offered by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion is assisting with the arrangements.In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to: woundedwarrierproject.org.Thomas was a very loving father and grandfather.
