Sterling Robert Macer, Sr.Sterling Robert Macer Sr, 83, passed from this earth and went to be with the Lord, March 31st 2017 at Memorial Herman Katy hospital in Katy, Texas.A memorial service for Mr. Macer will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Diversity Center at Historic Washington Ave Baptist Church, 803 N. Drury Lane. Pastor Rufus L. Kelly will officiate the service. For additional questions regarding the memorial, contact Dawn Macer at: 504-813-0024.Sterling was born on April 15, 1933, in Mason City, Iowa, one of four sons of Aaron and Ruby Macer. Growing up he attended Mason City public schools and graduated from Mason City High School in 1953. After High School, Sterling attended Barber school in Des Moines, Iowa. Later he attended Iowa Unitversity where he graduated in 1962. After graduating, He lived in East Moline and Moline Illinois for 7 years, working as Director of Recreational Therapy at East Moline State Hospital and Supervisor of Employment for Job Corps in Clinton, Ia. Though he would work another 8 years in Fort Wayne, Indiana for General Electric in Human Resources, Sterling worked the rest of his professional life as Human Resource Manager at GE's Springfield, Missouri Plant. During the 34 years he lived in Springfield, he became a beloved, highly respected member of the community and a Trustee of the historic Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Retiring from GE in 1995, Sterling moved to Fulshear, Tx in 2011, where he lived the remainder of his life with his daughter Deanne's family.Sterling is survived by his wife, Delores Marie Macer of Fulshear, TX; two brothers, Morris Edward (wife Mabel) Macer of Detroit, MI; Richard Aaron Macer of Worthington, Oh; three children, Deanne Marie (husband Dwight) Hodge of Fulshear TX, Sterling R. Macer Jr (wife Monica) of Los Angeles, Ca; Dawn Delores Macer of Katy, TX; five grandchildren, Drake; Devon; Dominique; Dalei and Dylan. Additionally, Sterling was a respected and much loved mentor to a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Aaron Edward Macer in 1941, his mother Ruby Macer Allen in 1995 and brother Allen Irving Macer in 1979.
