Spencer Allen LehmannSpencer "Spencie" Allen Lehmann passed away on October 24, 2016 in Gilbert, Arizona, after a short battle with necrotizing fasciitis. Spencie was born on July 23, 1945, the son of Dr. Hans and Thelma Lehmann and brother of Mark Lehmann. He grew up in Ballard near his many cousins, with whom he celebrated all holidays and shared countless fun and meaningful experiences.Spencie and his first wife, Kathy Lehmann settled in the Seattle area where they raised their two children, Kyle and David Lehmann, and he began his career in the health insurance industry.Spence, RHU had a 48-year career as a registered health underwriter, initially as sole proprietor of his own business, until 1978 when together with Terry Wood, he cofounded Lehmann / Wood Associates, specializing in the then new field of Long Term Care Insurance, and continues today as Lehmann Wood Johnson, Inc. Spence was well respected in his field and received the Barry Thoma Award, the highest award given by the Washington Association of Health Underwriters. Throughout his career he was active in legislative and regulatory issues, served as chairman of numerous healthcare boards, and was past President of the WA State Health Underwriters Assoc.He loved sunny, warm weather and once retired, together with his second wife, Fran Lehmann, moved to Palm Springs, wherehe quickly made new friends,enjoyed golfing, and enthusi-astically involved himself in the arts. Striving to bring both art and musical opportunities to all children, regardless of income and special needs, Spence was on the advisory board of Old Town Artisan Studio and actively contributed to Music For Life. He also remained very involved in the Seattle Senior Rights Organization, and the Alumni Association of his alma mater, Ballard High School. Spencie was passionate and loving, caring deeply about his children, Kyle and David, his brother Mark, his step children John Canda, Lisa Canda Spencer, and Sonya Canda, his grandchildren, Kaylee, Holly, Hayden, and many cousins, aunts and uncles. He had a most playful sense of humor and felt much joy as people joined him in laughter at his endless jokes and crazy, fun stories.Spencie's contagious laughter, his warm, passionate, and loving personality, will be deeply missed by his entire family, his long-time business partner, Terry, his fiance; Kristen Routson (Arizona), and all his many friends.A service celebrating Spence's life will be held at 12 noon, on January 27, at Temple Beth Am, Seattle.
