Sonya "Mammo" Perry, age 71, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 17, 2011. She was born on September 18, 1939 in Kountze, Texas to Alec and Wilma (Gandy) Work. She will be remembered as a loving, kind, and generous person. She adored her family deeply. Sonya was a devoted educator and loved working for the New Caney ISD Special Education Department. Her interests were shopping, dining, and collecting crafts. She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth (Perry) Townsend and Shanee (Perry) Kirk; five grandchildren: Jenna Townsend, Kaylie Townsend, Mededith Townsend, Lauren Kirk, and Collin Kirk; and a brother, Gene Work. Sonya was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Glenn. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble with interment in the Old Hardin Cemetery near Kountze, Texas. Thank you to all who helped Sonya in her time of need.
