Sidney Kligman, age 88, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017 in El Paso, Texas surrounded by his loving family. He was born one of five siblings on September 18, 1928 in Amarillo, Texas. In 1949 after attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, he met and married the love of his life, Fay. In the early days of their marriage, he played tenor saxophone and clarinet in his brother's swing band. Later he signed on as a manager with Gordon's Jewelry which transferred Sidney and his family from one Texas town to another and beyond to Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi and Florida. Missing his Texas roots, in 1961 he moved his family to El Paso where he eventually took over ownership of Sheldon Jewelry and formed a dedicated and hardworking staff that he considered like-family. For more than forty years at Sheldon's helm, he delighted in selling bridal sets to generations of local El Pasoans, many of whom became his loyal friends. "I'm here to see Sidney Kligman. It's a family tradition. My parents and grandparents bought their wedding rings from him," was often overheard on the sales floor. He was a pillar of the El Paso business community, a devoted husband and a dutiful father to his two children, Gregory and Peggy. Cherished visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest pleasures.
