Shirley Louise Lumsden of Tawas City passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Howell, age 81 years. Shirley was born on April 15, 1932 in Omer to the late John and Ida (Bannon) Wellna. She graduated from East Tawas High School in the Class of 1950. Shirley was voted the Silver Valley Ski Queen in 1951. Shirley was an avid bowler and participated in several leagues in the Tawas area for many years. She was also a member of the Tawas Eagles, and volunteered many countless hours working in Alabaster Township with the voting committee. Shirley will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her five loving children, Linda (Chris) Manning of Wayne, John (Andrea) Lumsden of Westland, Diane (Mark) Petz of Novi, Julie (George) Brown of Atlanta, Ga. and Christen Lumsden of Howell; five grandchildren, Aaron, Jennifer, Brian, Danielle and Ainsley; one sister, Susan Bluck of Tawas City; and one brother, Harry Wellna of Tawas City; five nieces and nephews, Becky Wellna, Dawn Cross, Dr. Scott Bluck, Jason Bluck and Colleen Rzepcki; and many dear friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford J. Lumsden, on June 25, 2007, to whom she was married to for 53 years; her parents, John and Ida Wellna; a brother, Edward Wellna; and a niece, Karen Reynolds. A funeral mass is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas with Father Lawrence Boks officiating. Her family will welcome friends at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass. Visitation will also be held at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Those wishing to do so may make an expression of sympathy to the in her honor.
