LAGRANGE — Shirley J. Haley, age 73, of LaGrange, Indiana, died Monday, March 21, 2016, at Miller's Merry Manor, LaGrange, Indiana. She was born on March 23, 1943, in Hazard, Kentucky, to Benjamin M. and Sirlda (Brewer) Ross. She had worked at the Frontierland Restaurant in LaGrange, Indiana, as a cook for many years. She attended the First Church of God in LaGrange, Indiana. She enjoyed watching soap operas, gospel and country music, cooking for her family and collecting angels. She is survived by a son, Rich and Krista Smith of Angola, Indiana; two daughters, Kim and Jay Douglas of Howe, Indiana, and Carrie and Tyson Launderbacher of Union City, Indiana; four brothers, David and Nancy Ross of Goshen, Indiana, Ben and Vicki Ross of Goshen, Indiana, Kelly and Judy Ross of Goshen and Larry Ross of Ohio; three sisters, Fannie Lower of LaGrange, Indiana, Barbara Ross of Elkhart, Indiana, and Darlene Hempal of Portage, Michigan; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Debra Jean Portwood; one brother, George Ross; and a sister, Martha Ross. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the First Church of God in LaGrange, Indiana, with Pastor Harold Ferraro officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from noon until 1 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be given to the United Fund of LaGrange County.
