Shirley E. Gurnea1927 - 2013Shirley E. Gurnea (Swayze), 86, of Kenosha died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Regent Manor. She was born on May 4, 1927, in Philadelphia, Penn., the daughter of the late Alden and Adele (Crain) Swayze. She was educated in the schools of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia School of Museum Art.She married Richard Bray in Philadelphia, Penn, and they later divorced. She married Charles Gurnea on Aug. 3, 1975, in Waukegan, Ill. She was an art teacher at U.W. Parkside for 20 years and was an early childhood development teacher at various schools in the area. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kenosha and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the church. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage. She was a Tai Chi Instructor for many years in Kenosha at Kemper Center, Senior Center, and Kenosha Museum. Shirley was loved by all and had many friends throughout her life. She is survived by her loving cat, Sweetheart and many friends. Special thanks to Regent Manor Staff for all their loving care, Hospice Advantage and Dr. B. Pulla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 1981 and a son, Ricky Bray. Memorial Services will be announced at a later date in August.
