Sharon K. StokesSharon K. Stokes, 71, passed away on the afternoon of May 16, 2017, at the St. Elizabeth Franciscan hospital in Lafayette, IN. She was born on May 28, 1945 in Waukegan, IL to Harry F. and Violet B. (Kurtz) Quandt. Her father passed away in World War II and her mother re-married John E. Papesh who raised her. Sharon graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1964.On Oct. 2, 1965 she married Larry A. Stokes and he survives. After their marriage Sharon was President of the Corinth Jaycett's, President of the Magnolia Hospital Pink Ladies and co-owned Larry A. Stokes Professional Builder with her husband in Corinth, MS. She was a Worthy Matron at the West Lafayette Eastern Star, Hope Chapter #5 where she was a member for 50 years.Sharon worked at Purdue University in the Residence Halls Administration Offices for 28 years and was known as "the Voice of Purdue Residence Halls". The Stokes family have been members of The Federated Church in Brookston for almost 40 years and during that time Sharon volunteered in various capacities including Superintendent of the Sunday School and the official church secretary.Sharon's greatest joy came from her children and grandchildren. She traveled often after retiring visiting them, sharing in their adventures and traveling to new destinations. Her grandkids were her hobbies and they were devoted to her. In addition to her biological children, Sharon was known as "Mom" to many of the students she interacted with at Purdue; particularly international students. Her warmth and caring helped to ease their transition to life here. Her extended family spans the globe.Sharon is survived by her husband, Larry A. Stokes of West Lafayette, two daughters, Kimberly A. Warren (husband Billy) of Dawsonville GA and Shelly K. Bisanz (husband Jim) of Woodstock, GA and her son, Bradley J. A. Stokes (wife and favorite daughter-in-law Barb) of, Fort Wayne, IN, sister Jackie Brown of IL.; and her five grandchildren, Chloe & Gabby Warren, Taylor Bisanz and Anna & Noah Stokes.She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Gary Quandt, her daughter Kelly L. Stokes and her granddaughter Ashley A. K. Fuller.A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Friday, May 19, 2017 starting at 6:00 p.m. at The Federated Church of Brookston, 202 S. Wood St, Brookston, IN 47923.
