Shai Lynn Mitchamore, a devoted wife, mother, daughter and friend to everyone she met, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, in Mansfield, Texas at the age of 54 surrounded by her immediate family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on January 12, 1971, in Vandalia, Illinois to David and Melody Greer, Shai brought immense joy and laughter to the lives of those around her. Shai spent most of her life in Mansfield where she graduated from Mansfield High School in 1990 and met and married her high school sweetheart, Byron Mitchamore in 1997. Byron was the absolute love of her life and together they built a life filled with many cherished memories. Their biggest accomplishment and joy was their son, Zachary, who was born in July of 1998.
From her beautiful backyard oasis she and Byron created where she spent many days recently, to her favorite trips to Cabo and California to the beach, Shai was a lover of the outdoors and nature. After beating Hodgkins Lymphoma in 1995, Shai hiked the Smoky Mountain region for 21 days. This was just one of the many examples of her strength and determination she displayed in so many ways.
Shai's generosity and kindness knew no bounds and she was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. One of Shai's biggest passions, other than her family, was the Weekend Backpack Ministry. Shai and Ms. Kay Klenzendorf answered a call to start the ministry in 2009 for those children in need to eat throughout the weekend. Shai also had the "Gift of Camp" where she was affectionately known as "Momma Shai" to many youth and children at TCAL Church.
Throughout her battle with cancer, Shai faced each challenge with remarkable grace and resilience, inspiring those around her with her unwavering spirit. Shai is survived by her husband of 27 years, Byron; her son, Zachary and his girlfriend, Hailey; her parents, David and Melody Greer; and many more loving and supportive family members and friends.
A celebration of Shai's life will be held on Sunday, January 26, at 2 p.m. at TCAL Church, located at 3810 Hadley Lane, Venus, Tx 76084.
In memory of Shai, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Common Ground Network, PO Box 1049, Mansfield, TX 76063...on memo line be sure to put "Weekend Backpack Ministry", a cause close to her heart. Shai's spirit, kindness, and love for life will forever be remembered by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
