Samuel HendersonSept. 11, 1940 - Nov. 25, 2016MISHAWAKA - Samuel Lee Sam Henderson, 76, of Mishawaka, died Friday, November 25, 2016, at Hubbard Hill Estates. Sam was born on September 11, 1940, to Beatrice (Carter) Henderson and Samuel Henderson. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sadie Jones; brothers, Willie Myers, Eddie Henderson, and Thomas Henderson; nephew, Centry Morris Sr.; and a niece, Beatrice (Freddie Bea) Robinson. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends across the States. Samuel was a caring person who always made sure to check in on his family and friends, even his extended family in California. He served the United States Army with the same dedication he gave to his family and friends. After the Army, he was employed at Whitehall Lab for several years until they closed. He loved music, reading, history, and has a special fondness for all African American cultural events and history surrounding his culture. Sam was an avid writer and at one time wrote for the Elkhart Truth. Uncle Sam, as he was known to many, leaves behind a multitude of wisdom and with this he would not want anyone to cry for his untimely departure, but rejoice in all the goodness to the many lives he touched and the many lived that touched him. The family thanks you for your support and prayers during this most difficult time. A celebration of life will be held at 11 am Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, where full military honors will be rendered with the DAV Chaplain Andy Williams officiating.
