Sammy Aves Williamson (Papa Sam) passed away on March 7, 2017, at his home in Alamogordo, N.M. He was born on April 21, 1939 in Amherst, Texas to Harold and Lucille Williamson. He married the love of his life, Goldie Clark, on February 22, 1958, in Truth or Consequences, NM. Sam and Goldie recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife, Goldie Williamson, his daughters, Tanya Adams (Duane), of Alamogordo NM, and Stacy Beasley (Robert), of Sugar Land, TX. He is survived by his grandsons, Collin Adams of Albuquerque, NM; Nolan Adams, of Alamogordo NM; Jackson Beasley, of Sugar Land, TX; and Colton Beasley, of Sugar Land, TX. He is preceded in death by his first grandson, Bryon Adams. He is also survived by two great-grandsons, Matthew and Isaiah. Sam enlisted in the Air Force in 1956 and was stationed in Keflavik AFB, Iceland; Clark AFB, Philippines; Hickam AFB, Hawaii; Edwards AFB, California; Langley AFB, Virginia; Kirkland AFB, New Mexico, and Holloman AFB, where he retired in 1978 after 22 years of active service. He is also a Vietnam veteran, serving in Vietnam from 1967-68. After he retired from the Air Force, he worked for Sperry Flight Systems, DynCorp and General Dynamics. He retired in 2001 and spent many years RVing with his wife, Goldie, and many friends. Sam led a full and adventurous life as a pilot, motorcyclist, and after-work owner of a street-sweeping business. He was a leader in his church and not ashamed to share the gospel of Jesus. He was a devoted husband and father, and a loyal friend. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service and celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, March 11 at 10 a.m., at Cuba Avenue Church of Christ in Alamogordo, NM.
