HAMPSTEAD, N.C. — Ruby Mae Lowery Hord, 78, of Hampstead, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at Davis Health Care.
She was born on Oct. 12, 1936 in McFarlan, North Carolina, to Ethel Ida Teal Lowery and the late Louis Pinkston Lowery. She has one sister, Edith Buckwell and one brother, the late Louis Ray Lowery (Mereldyn Lowery).
Ruby was happily married for more than 60 years to Franklin Garner Hord Sr. She was the loving mother of Glenda (Vonn) McKnight, Denise (Robert) Lordo, the late Franklin Hord Jr., Felicia (Jerry) Campbell, Allen (Kim) Hord and Donna (Steve) King. She was also the loving grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She recently retired from Queensboro Shirt Company in 2014. She loved reading, watching her favorite soap operas in the afternoon, spending time with her family and chocolate. Her weekends were spent going to yard sales and favorite restaurants with her husband.
A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel where funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Sea Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
