Ross F. Miller Ross F. Miller, 92, of Tulalip, WA. passed away peacefully October 17, 2013. He was born on August 16, 1921 in Seattle, WA. to Ross and Lillian Miller. Mr. Miller grew up in the Pacific Northwest graduating from Bellevue High School and the University of Washington with degrees in mathematics (MS) and physics (BS). In the spring of 1944, he married Alice Millikan of Marysville, WA. In 1948, he and Alice moved to southern California where they raised their three kids while Ross pursued a career at the Northrop Corporation. Over his 35 year career at Northrop, Ross held many high-level executive positions and had the distinction of having served as senior executive of three of Northrop's groups. From 1973 to 1979 he was Senior Vice President and Group Executive of the Communications and Electronics Group; from 1979 to 1980 he was the Senior Vice President and Group Executive of the Aircraft Group; and from 1982 to 1985 he was Group Vice President of the Services Group. In 1980, Ross retired early from Northrop in order to dedicate his full attention to caring for his ailing wife, Alice. Ross and Alice returned to the Northwest and built a waterfront home on the Tulalip Indian Reservation. Alice passed away in April of 1982, shortly after moving into the house. They had been married 38 years. In October 1982, Ross married Mary Jane Potter, from Marysville, WA. The following year, Ross and Mary Jane moved to Santa Monica, CA. and Ross returned to Northrop as the Senior Vice President of the Services Group. After spending a few years acquainting Mary Jane with his life at Northrop, Ross retired for good and returned to the Northwest where he dedicated himself to enjoying life with Mary Jane and her family and serving the community. Ross served on the Boards of the: Providence Hospital, Providence General Fund, Snohomish County Hospice & Home Care, Marysville Alternative High School and the Sno-Isle Skill Center. He is a recipient of the distinguished Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Marysville Rotary and an Angel of Mercy of the Snohomish County Hospice. Ross was a demanding but fair man with a point of view tending towards the pragmatic. He possessed excellent listening, speaking and motivational skills along with a thirst for knowledge that he quenched by reading and traveling the world. There was an artistic side of Ross that enjoyed music, playing his keyboard, and wood carving. He was also a proud and private person who enjoyed the solitude offered by fishing or tending his dahlias. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Miller; his parents, Ross and Lillian Miller; and his siblings: Elizabeth, Joe and Cliff. Ross is survived by his wife Mary Jane; his three sons: Ross (Sue) from Tulalip, Mark (Joan) from Whidbey Island, and Dean from San Francisco, CA. two step-children: Susie (Jim) Black and Whitney (Mary Lynn) Potter from Edmonds; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Ross will be long remembered not only for his outstanding achievements, but also as a very fine gentleman. He will be missed by his family and friends.
