Rose Mary BowerAGE: 78 • Toms RiverRose Mary Bower (nee McGiveron) 78, of Toms River, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, surround by her loving family. Rose was born on October 22, 1938 in Liverpool, England to the late Henry and Esther (Hardie) McGiveron. Rose was educated in Liverpool, England and moved to Staten Island, New York in 1959. Rose was employed by Sunnyside Hospital as a Nurses' Assistant having worked in the operating room and post-op surgical ward. On May 13, 1962 she married the love of her life, Kenneth James Bower and they were married for 52 years. She moved from Staten Island to New Jersey in 1976 and has resided in the towns of Lincroft and Toms River. Rose worked as a Nurse's Assistant at Red Bank Convalescent Center and Bayshore Hospital and was recognized as an outstanding employee on several occasions. Filled with compassion and interest in others, Rose made friends easily, was a good listener, a gracious and hospitable host, and was kind to all those she encountered whether it be a family member, lifelong friend, neighbor, casual acquaintance or stranger. She affectionately called everyone "Luv" and with her beautiful smile and lovely British accent, she could light up a room with her presence. She found comfort and peace in her Catholic faith. The roles of wife, mother and grandmother were important to Rose and her love and caring for her family remained her focus. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy.Rose is predeceased by her beloved husband, Kenneth; her brother Andrew McGiveron; her brother-in-law Peter Rowson; and her sister-in-law Patricia DeTeresa. Rose is survived by her three daughters, three sons-in-law and seven grandchildren: Anne, Robert, Colette and Luke Durante of Middletown, NJ; Jennifer, Bill, William and Andrew Meyer of Short Hills, NJ; Rachel, Brian, Willow, Brooke, Keira Schaefer of Basalt, CO. Her two sisters, Eileen Rowson of Huyton, England and Jeanette Lawler of Runcorn, England; two brothers, William McGiveron of Woolton, England and Michael McGiveron of Perth, Australia, and her sister-in-law, Edith Brophy of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Rose is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family in the United States, England and Australia.Visiting hours will be from 3 - 7 PM, Sunday, September 10 at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, September 11 at 10 AM, Church of Saint Catharine, 108 Middletown Road, Holmdel. The Interment will be on Tuesday, September 12, at 12:30 PM at Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
