SOUTH BEND — Ronald W. Kaufman, 66, of South Bend died at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014, at his residence in South Bend; he had been in declining health for the past two months. He was born on July 4, 1947, in Mcminnville, Ore., to Vernon and Mary (Dintaman) Kaufman. On March 29, 1980, in South Bend he married Cheryl Gerber and she survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Ryan W. Kaufman of West Dundee, Ill., and Justin R. Kaufman and Anthony J. Kaufman, both of South Bend; a brother, Roger (Janet) Kaufman of Shipshewana; and two sisters, Bonnie (Al) Schultz of Albion and Birdena (Tom) Ringenberg of Huntington. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ron had worked as a bookkeeper for Reimer Ice, North Webster, as a young man and later worked as a computer programmer/analyst for Kelly World, South Bend, and American Computing Systems, Osceola. He enjoyed reading, spending time outdoors and was known for his ability to be self-taught in several different fields. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury. Friends and family will go in processions after visitation for a graveside service at Bontrager Cemetery, Middlebury. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. also on Monday at Christ Chapel, 3402 Locust Road, South Bend. Services will be conducted by Pastor Stephen Sumrall.
