HILL, Ronald Kenneth Ronald Kenneth Hill of Atlanta, Georgia and Beacon, New York, died in his home on October 19, 2016. He was 85. His daughter Rhonda, and son-in-law Morgan Donohue, his grandsons, William and Luther Nolan, all of Beacon, and his brother, Clifford Daniel Hill, survive Ron. His wife, Wilma Hawkins, of Chatsworth, Ga., his son, R. Kenneth Hill, Jr., and his brother Homer Hubert Hill Jr. preceded him in death. He was the son of Louise Harris Segal and stepson of Meyer Segal, all of Atlanta. Ron was born on November 26,1930. At 14 he joined the Georgia State Guard in 1944 and continued his service in the Army as a drill instructor and artilleryman during the Korean War. He graduated Georgia State University in 1959 on the GI Bill where he was editor of the newspaper, president of the student body and was a founding member of the Eta Gamma Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity, recognized in their Hall of Honor. A charismatic speaker and marketer and fine writer, Ron had a lively career in advertising in Atlanta. He was small aircraft pilot and writer at Conway Research, and later the Advertising Director of Atlanta Magazine. After the Atlanta Chamber sold the magazine, Ron worked at other Atlanta companies including Intelligent Systems, The Atlanta Business Chronicle and Goodlife Magazine. Among his many career achievements, Ron was the President of the Atlanta Ad Club, an officer of Sales Marketing Executives and Governor of the Seventh District of the American Advertising Federation. For fun, Ron was an avid tennis player in the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association, playing at The Oaks in Doraville and then at Fontainebleau in Dunwoody. After the deaths of his wife and son, he moved to Beacon to live near his daughter. He continued in sales and advertising with The Southern Dutchess News, IBM and MKTWorks of the Hudson Valley. His main role in his second city was to coach hundreds of young men in the fundamentals of the game for Beacon Junior Baseball until he was 81. On Saturday, November 12, Ron will be celebrated with military honors at 11 am at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, where he will be interred with his wife, son and mother. All are welcome.
