GETTYSBURG Ronald "Ron" A. Doersom, 65, passed away unexpectedly alongside his son, surrounded by nature and doing what he loved best on April 4, 2015, in Newville. Ron was born on January 21, 1950, in Gettysburg to the late Richard and Margaret (Shields) Doersom. He is survived by his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, Keith, Karen and Levi Doersom of Newville; his daughter, Lindsay Doersom of Frederica, Del.; his fiance, Judy Weikert, of Fairfield; two brothers, Richard Doersom (and wife Nancy) of Gettysburg, and Jeffrey (and wife Mari) Doersom of Red Lion; and one sister, Susan (and husband Gary) Ingram of East Berlin. Additionally, Ron is survived by two nieces, Jennifer and Heather Ingram; and two nephews, Benjamin and Bryan Doersom. Ron was a 1967 graduate of Gettysburg Area High School, attended
Penn State University, and served in the
Army Reserves. He owned and operated Ronald Doersom & Associates, an industrial lighting consultation business for many years before becoming the Southeast Sales Manager for Hadco Lighting. Ron simultaneously owned and operated the family business started by his parents, Gettysburg Country Store on the Fairfield Road. In recent years, Ron enjoyed retirement by spending time with his family and friends, riding his motorcycle, landscaping, and fishing. He was influential in passing on his knowledge and love of aviation to his son and grandson, enjoyed building model aircraft and railroads, and will forever be remembered for his sense of humor. Ron was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg, the Gettysburg Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Biglerville American Legion, Fairfield AmVets and the Blue and Gray Aviation Association of Gettysburg. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 10 at 11:30 a.m. from Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg. The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the , 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17042.
