As a surprise on his 85th birthday his daughter and son-in-law gave him a golf cart. He would zip around Lakeside and visit his friends. In the summer of 1997, Rollin was a fireman on the Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad. He recently told a friend that was his favorite job, because it was so much fun.Rollin was an avid model railroad enthusiast. He had an intricate layout in his garage that he spent years building. He also enjoyed steam locomotives and traveled to thresher shows and steam museums. Last summer he took a trip from Mt. Pleasant, MI, to Cadillac, MI, a six hour round trip. He had a wonderful time and also visited the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso MI. He was very active in his church, ushering on Sundays, a member of the church board for 35 years and helping make "hard tac" candy and apple dumplings. He and Stella painted the church sanctuary many years ago and always helped decorate for Christmas and Easter. Many nights he would walk over to the church and lock the doors for the night. He was a member of the Methodist Men , ushered at Hoover Auditorium on Sundays during the summer and volunteered at the Danbury Food Pantry through November, 2016.Survivors include his daughter, Diann (George) Tyler, Catawba Island; grandchildren, Paul (Stacy) Sohner, Ross Sohner, and Rebecca (Robert) Hernandez; great-grandchildren, Christian and Kamryn Sohner, Clarissa Sohner; and Ava, Liam, and Mateo Hernandez.
