He grew up in Trumansburg and spent many summers enjoying Cayuga Lake at the family cottage on Interlaken Beach. All throughout high school Jerry played sports and he continued playing while attending college, obtaining his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Buffalo. He participated in logging sports, played football, and most importantly, met his wife of 34 years, Lauri, while in Oregon attending college. The two made their home in Interlaken raising their three children and in 2015 purchased a retirement home in Holden Beach, North Carolina. He started Yaw's Environmental Company in Ithaca NY in 1988. A die hard Miami Dolphins fan, Jerry organized annual bus trips to games and was known for his mean tailgate food. Family and friends alike will miss his ability to whip up an outrageous meal whether at home or on one of their many camping trips. An avid sportsman, Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing. An active member of the Interlaken Sportsmen's Club for over 30 years, he spent countless hours helping out and putting on dinners throughout the years. He had visited all 50 states, completing that task just this year by traveling to Hawaii in February and fishing in Alaska last month, a trip his son Ryan gave him for father's day to fulfill Jerry's dream of fishing in Alaska.
