NEW BREMEN — Roger L. Mueller, age 85, of New Bremen, died on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at 3:15 a.m. at the Otterbein Retirement Community, of St. Marys, Ohio.
He was born on Dec. 31, 1930, in New Bremen, the son of the late Frank and Alma (Topp) Mueller. On Nov. 6, 1954, he married Grace E. Wittenbrink, who died on Sept. 22, 2004.
Surviving are his children Sheryl Scherer of Sidney, Ronald Mueller of New Bremen, Ken Mueller of New Bremen, and Gary (Gretchen) Mueller of Cincinnati; grandchildren Renee (Jason) Geise of Sidney, Derek (Danielle) Scherer of Sidney, Breanna and Alyssa Mueller both of Cincinnati; great-grandchildren McKayla, Dylan, and Ashlynn Geise and Jaret, Trenton and Logan Scherer; in-laws Edgar Henning and Louise and Daryl Koenig, and both of New Bremen. Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his twin sister Ruth Henning.
Roger was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, were he had held several church offices. He had served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was stationed in Germany as a Tank Commander. He worked in assembly at the former STAMCO of New Bremen for 40 years. He was an avid Ohio State and Cincinnati Reds fan – always making time to watch the games on television. Roger enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle and Rook, and loved to spend time with his family.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen with the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Burial will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, from 4-8 p.m. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and on Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church.
